The Council

Information about the council

The Council:

  • is a corporate body, accountable to the electorate and all decisions made are the responsibility of the Council as a whole
  • agrees a Precept (money raised by West Northamptonshire Council, for the parish, as part of our council tax)
  • monitors decisions – budgets, precepts, financial regulations, standing orders, risk assessments
  • holds monthly meetings (2nd Tuesday in the month) which are open to the public, except in certain circumstances

Role of Councillors
Councillors are elected for a period of four years, the next election will be held in 2025. By-elections may be held during the term if a vacancy occurs.

Councillors must:

  • complete a declaration of Acceptance of Office and accept the Council’s Code of Conduct
  • behave in an ethical way and declare an interest when necessary
  • respond to the needs and views of the community

Role of the Clerk
The Clerk is employed by the Parish Council and is the Proper Officer of the Council, also the Responsible Financial Officer. As Chief Executive of the Parish Council the Clerk’s primary responsibility is to advise the Council on making lawful decisions and recommend ways in which these decisions can be implemented. The Clerk will provide unbiased information on well-researched issues of concern to the Council.
